Root Canal Treatments
Root canal treatments involve the removal of the infected or inflamed nerve tissue and blood vessels from the tooth. Once this nerve tissue is damaged, there are only two treatment options: a root canal treatment, which allows one to retain the tooth; or tooth extraction.
Emergency Dental Treatment
A toothache indicates the need to see a dentist urgently. Call Broadwater Dental so we can schedule an urgent appointment for you. We cover after-hour emergencies for existing patients; call 07 5528 0770 for our after-hour emergency number.
A Knocked-Out Tooth
If there is dirt on the tooth, gently rinse the tooth in milk, holding it by the crown without touching or rubbing the root. Insert the tooth back into the socket if possible, otherwise, place it in a container of milk or the patient’s mouth inside the cheek or lip. Get to a dentist within 30 minutes if you can. The time taken to replant the tooth is critical for increasing the chance of success.
A Broken Tooth
If possible to locate the fractured pieces, keep them moist and wrapped in cling film. Book an emergency dental appointment.
Periodontal or Gum Problems
When dentists talk about gum problems, we are not referring to chewing gum.
It is standard procedure to constantly monitor the health of the gums at dental check-ups. The gums are important from a health view, as they have been linked to certain heart conditions and diabetes, and a functional angle, as they protect the underlying jawbone, as well as from a cosmetic angle as they frame the teeth. Early detection of a developing gum problem and early treatment will prevent a deteriorating situation that can become costly and invasive to stabilise.
Dental Sterilisation
Dentists use an autoclave as part of a reprocessing protocol in order to sterilise instruments. An autoclave uses steam under pressure to achieve rapid, high-heat sterilisation of instruments. The success of each sterilisation cycle is monitored using various indicators and recorded.
